Hampton Roads STRONG (HR STRONG) Marine Trade Training in Welding & Structural Fitting Program

CCWC is proud to announce our participation in the recently launched Hampton Roads STRONG (HR STRONG) Maritime Trade Training in Welding & Structural Fitting Program.

HR STRONG is delivered through a partnership between CCWC, which provides marine welding training curriculum at our three community college locations of Camp Community College, Tidewater Community College, and Thomas Nelson Community College; the Hampton Roads Workforce Council, which provides supportive services for HR STRONG program participants; and the Virginia Ship Repair Association (VSRA), whose proven Marine Trade Training Program delivers expanded training classes in Marine Welding and Structural Fitting.

Who is Eligible to Participate in HR Strong Training?

STRONG PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

  • 18+ years or older
  • Registered for Selective Service where applicable
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Successfully complete a pre-screening which includes a background check, drug screening, and physical at no cost to the participant

How Long is the Training?

HR Strong’s training program consists of 9 weeks of trade training at one of CCWC’s partner community colleges and 2 weeks of classroom training at VSRA. At the end of the 11 weeks, HR Strong participants are fully prepared for their new maritime trade career.

How Much Does It Cost to Complete the Training?

This program is valued at over $9,000 and eligible students receive all training and services FREE! Supportive services are also available to students to help meet student needs outside of the classroom, like childcare and transportation.

Is There Job Placement Assistance After Completion of Training?

Yes! HR Strong participants who complete the training program will receive job readiness services through Hampton Roads Workforce Council and the Virginia Ship Repair Association. Program participants are also connected to employment opportunities in the ship repair industry, including with VSRA’s 300 member companies.
