The Virginia Peninsula Community College men’s basketball team opened conference play with an 87-65 victory over Emory Oxford on Saturday, Nov. 18, at Warwick High School. The win was sparked by an improved second half of defense for the Gators (4-1, 1-0 New South Athletic Conference). Coach Chris Moore’s halftime talk might have played a role. In observance of Thanksgiving, Virginia Peninsula Community College will close at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 22. Campuses in Hampton and Williamsburg as well as satellite locations will reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 27. During the closure, new and returning students may get information about spring semester classes, tuition, financial aid, and more at www.vpcc.edu. Nearly 100 people, including scholarship donors and recipients, attended the Virginia Peninsula Community College Educational Foundation’s annual appreciation reception on Nov. 14 at the Holiday Inn Newport News.
